Our Story

A unique approach to property management

Welcome to Out of the Gutter, your local trusted, family-run business located in Bawdeswell, Dereham providing services in Norfolk and Suffolk, since 2008-09.

Founded by Rafe and Claire Kirkcaldy, our journey reflects resilience and community spirit. Despite facing multiple recessions with redundancy in 2008, we remained determined. Rafe’s career in IT systems management at John Grose Group Ltd and his qualifications in carpentry and joinery laid a strong foundation for our business. This blend of skills and passion for property maintenance led to the launch of Out of the Gutter property solutions.

Claire has previously worked in many office administration roles, customer services in the leisure industry, and running a private holiday let, adding to her wealth of business experience.

With great support from friends and family, we navigated the self-employment registration, VAT and software systems, and embraced social media for business promotion.

We are committed to continuous learning and helping others on their entrepreneurial journeys, guided by our principle: “Do unto others that which benefits them more than you”!

As we enter 2025, we remain committed to providing steadfast and reliable property cleaning solutions, even in the face of challenges. With a strong foundation of over 16 years’ experience, we’ve recently achieved SMAS Worksafe certification and SSiP accreditation. This ensures we meet the highest standards for health, safety, and compliance, making us fully equipped to support companies that require HSE documentation and comprehensive RAMS certifications.
